Mayor Fiorentini Endorses Paul Magliocchetti for School Committee
Says Experience Critical as Haverhill Begins Search for New School Superintendent
Mayor James J. Fiorentini is endorsing life-long Haverhill resident, attorney and small business owner Paul A. Magliocchetti in his re-election race for the Haverhill School Committee.
Mayor Fiorentini, who has worked with Magliocchetti on the School Committee since 2010, stressed Paul’s knowledge, experience and involvement in educational issues and especially the Haverhill school community.
“As we are about to begin the process of choosing our next superintendent, I believe it is more important than ever that we have experienced people like Paul on the School Committee,” said Mayor Fiorentini, who is also chairman of Haverhill School Committee.
Haverhill Superintendent James F. Scully has said he intends to retire at the end of the school year, and the School Committee recently voted to hire the Massachusetts Association of School Committees to conduct a national search for candidates. The School Committee is ultimately responsible for hiring the next superintendent, based on majority vote. Magliocchetti was involved in screening and hiring Superintendent Scully in 2011.
“Hiring a superintendent of schools is the most important task for a school committee,” Mayor Fiorentini said. “Paul Magliocchetti has experience in helping to choose and hire a superintendent, evaluate a superintendent, and he has personally interviewed several candidates who applied in the past. Paul is also in charge of hiring and firing at his law firm, the largest law firm in the city. His experience is critically needed to assist us in hiring our next superintendent.”
Mayor Fiorentini believes Magliocchetti has the right values for improving public education.
“Paul has been a champion of the Classical Academy at Haverhill High School and a key proponent of full-day kindergarten in the city,” Mayor Fiorentini added. “He has stressed academic excellence and has the commitment and values to make our education system better.”
Mayor Fiorentini noted Magliocchetti has a history of civic and public service and that he and his wife, Julie, have three children who attend Haverhill schools.
Magliocchetti is currently is an Attorney/Partner at Sheehan, Schiavoni, Jutras and Magliocchetti, LLP, and he serves as chairman of the Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce and chairman of Bethany Homes.
